Boston City Map

Our new Boston City Map poster is a great gift for any fan of this wonderful city. The Old Town Trolley map includes a small map of Boston's subway system, while the Beantown Trolley map size is smaller and somewhat more convenient to use. They're free - so get them both and decide when one you like best. Our leading trolley tour companies produce their own Boston city maps, although they focus just on the area covered by the trolley tours - but that's still a fairly large swath of the city. St. Elizabeth's Medical Center is in Brighton Center of the city's Brighton neighborhood. New England Baptist Hospital is in Mission Hill.
The city has Veterans Affairs medical centers in the Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury neighborhoods. The Boston Public Health Commission, an agency of the Massachusetts government, oversees health concerns for city residents. Boston EMS provides pre-hospital emergency medical services to residents and visitors. Video games have used Boston as a backdrop and setting, such as Assassin's Creed III published in 2012 and Fallout 4 in 2015. The church became known as Brimstone Corner, possibly because the area was used for the storage of gunpowder during the War of 1812. In 1816, the Park Street Church joined the Old South Church and formed the City Mission Society, which served Boston's poor.
The church was the site of many firsts, including the nation's first Sunday School in 1818, first prison aid in 1824, and William Lloyd Garrison's first public statement against slavery in 1829. Boston Children's Museum is the second oldest and one of the most influential children's museums in the world. For over 100 years it has been engaging children in joyful discovery experiences that instill an appreciation of our world, develop foundational skills, and spark a lifelong love of learning. The Museum's exhibits and programs emphasize hands-on engagement, learning through experience, and employing play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children. One of the most extensive areas of man-made land in Boston is in the city's Back Bay neighborhood and surrounding areas.
The 150-year history of land-making in this area shares some aspects with the Mill Pond saga, including the initial construction of a dam to power mills in 1822. Back Bay encompassed the large tidal flats on the north side of Boston Neck, which connected Boston to the mainland. Once that area was cordoned off by the dam (as can be seen in the 1826 map above), it was probably inevitable that it would eventually be filled in. These statistics are made public by the city, thereby increasing incentives for buildings to be more environmentally conscious. Air quality in Boston is generally very good.
Between 2004 and 2013, there were only four days in which the air was unhealthy for the general public, according to the EPA. Boston has been a noted religious center from its earliest days. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston serves nearly 300 parishes and is based in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross (1875) in the South End, while the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts serves just under 200 congregations, with the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (1819) as its episcopal seat. Fitzgerald. In 1822, the citizens of Boston voted to change the official name from the ""Town of Boston"" to the ""City of Boston"", and on March 19, 1822, the people of Boston accepted the charter incorporating the city.
At the time Boston was chartered as a city, the population was about 46,226, while the area of the city was only 4.8 square miles (12 km2). Boston was an early port of the Atlantic triangular slave trade in the New England colonies, but was soon overtaken by Salem, Massachusetts and Newport, Rhode Island. Boston is an intellectual, technological, and political center but has lost some important regional institutions, including the loss to mergers and acquisitions of local financial institutions such as FleetBoston Financial, which was acquired by Charlotte-based Bank of America in 2004.
Boston-based department stores Jordan Marsh and Filene's have both merged into the New York City-based Macy's.  The 1993 acquisition of The Boston Globe by The New York Times was reversed in 2013 when it was re-sold to Boston businessman John W. Henry.  There were small Native communities throughout what became Boston, who likely moved between winter homes inland along the Charles River (called Quinobequin, meaning ""meandering,"" by the Native people), where hunting was plentiful and summer homes along the coast where fishing and shellfish beds were plentiful.  Through archeological excavations, one of the oldest Native fishweirs in New England was found on Boylston Street. Native people constructed it to trap fish several thousand years ago.  The city is also home to several art museums and galleries, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
The Institute of Contemporary Art is housed in a contemporary building designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in the Seaport District.  Boston's South End Art and Design District (SoWa) and Newbury St. are both art gallery destinations.  Columbia Point is the location of the University of Massachusetts Boston, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and the Massachusetts Archives and Commonwealth Museum.  One of the best known sporting events in the city is the Boston Marathon, the 26.2-mile (42.2 km) race which is the world's oldest annual marathon, run on Patriots' Day in April. On April 15, 2013, two explosions killed three people and injured hundreds at the marathon.  Another major annual event is the Head of the Charles Regatta, held in October.  Boston has Esports teams as well, such as the Overwatch League's Boston Uprising.

Chicago, city, seat of Cook county, northeastern Illinois, U.S. With a population hovering near three million, Chicago is the state's largest and the country's third most populous city. In addition, the greater Chicagoland area—which encompasses northeastern Illinois and extends into southeastern Wisconsin and northwestern Indiana—is the country's third largest metropolitan area and the dominant metropolis of the Midwest. I'd like to comment that the cyclists on road bikes who are exercising on the trail are not ""training for the tour de france"" just like the runners who are on this trail are not training for the Olympics. Let's all be tolerant please. That being said, for those who are finding it challenging to get a good workout on this trail, I'd recommend taking the new extension to the lakefront trail south to the Eerie Lackawanna trail in Indiana or the Burnham Greenway trail.
